Doctor in Louisville, Kentucky

Doctor in Louisville Kentucky John Weeter. Information on Dr, credentials, background, experience, certification and more.

Dr. Weeter, a native Louisvillian and third generation physician, graduated from Vanderbilt University and earned his medical degree from the University of Kentucky. After general surgery training at the Medical University of South Carolina, his plastic and reconstructive surgery training was at St. Francis Memorial Hospital in San Francisco. Certification from the American Board of Plastic Surgery was earned in 1979, and Certification of Advanced Education in Cosmetic Surgery was granted in 1999 from the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, of which he is a member. He was elected to Fellowship in the American College of Surgeons in 1980 and is a member of The American Society of Plastic Surgeons.

His clinical career has included appointment as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Plastic Surgery at the University of Louisville, Clinical Director of the Burn Unit at Kosair Children's Hospital, and a member of the Cleft Lip and Palate Program of Kentucky's Commission for Children with Special Health Care Needs.

Dr. Weeter has a long-time interest and experience in international medical care. He has traveled overseas studying, providing medical care, and teaching in Ecuador, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Panama, Argentina, and Taiwan. He speaks Spanish. The International Committee of the Jefferson County Medical Society and Sister Cities of Louisville chose Dr. Weeter to be their Founding Chairman. Nineteen-ninety was the start of his annual medical mission trips to South and Central America to teach plastic surgery and care for children with cleft lips and palates, birth defects, and burn scar deformities. Interplast, an organization that teaches and cares for children with these medical challenges, chose him to be a Team Leader or a Visiting Educator for these one to three week missions.

Dr. Weeter has been involved in the broad range of plastic surgical services. Cosmetic (Aesthetic) Surgery is a more important emphasis of his practice in recent years. He has received Certification of Advanced Education in Cosmetic Surgery from the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. He has done clinical research on cosmetic surgical products, such as collagen injections and breast implants. His special interest in rhinoplasty (nasal surgery), facial rejuvenation surgery including endoscopic and laser assisted procedures, and cosmetic and reconstructive breast surgery has helped many patients achieve their goals.

The respect that he has received by his medical colleagues is reflected by referrals and consultation from other practioneers and satisfied patients, and by their election of him to leadership roles in hospital staffs and medical societies. He has received recognition awards for his international educational actives by Louisville's Mayor Sloan (1985) and Sister Cities of Louisville (1995).

Dr. Weeter is married and has four children. Outside of medicine he enjoys tennis, sailing, genealogy, and raising orchids.

My Personal Practice Philosophy

In the more than thirty years of the practice of Cosmetic, Reconstructive, and Plastic Surgery, I have been offering my patients an uncompromising dedication to personalized care and to meet each individual's unique needs and goals. It begins with an honest, thorough and insightful consultation, proceeds to precise "state of the art" surgical care, and includes attentive and long-term aftercare. Confidentiality is respected throughout this process.

I am also very committed to giving back to society. In addition to teaching at the University of Louisville, I donate my time and skills to those in need. I have been involved in international medical care and teaching throughout my medical career. I have spent about two weeks each year in Latin America, teaching and performing cleft lip, cleft palate, and burn reconstructive surgery on patients with few resources. Giving of my skills enhances my medical practice and my life.

My commitment to quality care is also reflected through continuous education in the advancement of our surgical specialties. I am certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, and am a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery and other national and regional medical societies.
